Europe Part 3: Rome, Naples/Pompei, Sardinia

We were in Rome on Jacob's birthday! He was able to open a few gifts before we took a bus from the port in to Rome

St. Peter's Basillica

We didn't have a ton of time in Rome, so we did a fast walking tour to see some of the main sites

Pantheon

Jacob's plan was to have gelato for breakfast, lunch, and dinner on his birthday. This one at the famous Pantheon shop was so big that he agreed to let it count for two.

We watched an amazing Flamenco show on the ship that night

Happy 11th Birthday, buddy!

The next day, we were docked in Naples, Italy. We took an excursion to Pompei, a winery on the slopes of Mt. Vesuvius, and to the top of Mt. Vesuvius itself. It was one of our favorite days!

Pompei was super interesting and creepy at the same time

Look very closely and then ask the girls about this picture sometime. ;)

Stopped for lunch at the winery on the slopes of Mt. Vesuvius. Beautiful and good wine!

The hike to the top of Mt. Vesuvius was pretty foggy and rainy, but we made the most of it!

The next day, we docked on the island of Sardinia. It was a beautiful island that we spent the day exploring.

Stopped for more Italian pizza and Fanta

Sardinia had a very interesting market - with lots of different (and smelly) meats and cheeses

Jacob called Sardinia "shrimp island" - he mixed up sardines with shrimp. I guess Wyomingites don't know their seafood very well.

We saw the broadway show, "Choir of Man," on the ship that night. It was amazing!
