Rodeo Weekend

There is a parade and rodeo at the end of fair week each year.

Maya and I started out the day with a 5K Fun Run!  She did great!

Maya had a great week at the fair too.  She won grand (headbands) and reserve (teal skirt above her head) in the sewing open class show.  She also won a grand champion ribbon on her flower arrangement and on her peas.  Jacob won a reserve champion ribbon on the peanut butter cookies he made with Grammy Joyce.

Litte Jacob also had fun at the fair.  Here he is watching the beef show with his buddy, Kreyton.

Gabi did Mutton Bustin' at the rodeo on Sunday!  She did great! She is in the teal shirt and white ski helmet.  :)

Keeping Jacob busy in the rodeo box.  Playing with trucks never gets old.

Gabi gets a well-deserved nap after the rodeo on Sunday afternoon!  It was a long week!

Sheep Lead

During the Johnson County Fair, there is a sheep lead competition.  The kids dress up in outfits made primarily out of wool and dress their lamb to match.  I made Maya the orange dress last fall for the Make it with Wool contest and luckily it still fit.  I made Jacob a matching vest and bowtie, complete with the JH brand.  The lamb also had a bowtie, of course.

Jacob was such a ham out in front of the crowd and judges.  We had told him to wave and wave he did!  Awesome princess wave!  He had everyone in stitches.  Maya had her hands full...she had to lead the sheep and Jacob!!

Gabi also competed in the sheep lead wearing the wool poncho that she made.  We made a matching coat for Smokey.  :)

Fair

Fair week came and it was time for Gabi to show her lamb, Smokey.  She was sooooo nervous, but she did a great job!  Her lamb was not cooperative, but she showed the heck out of him anyways and didn't let him get the best of her!  She is one tough little girl.  In showmanship, she qualified for the championship round and placed 7th.  She placed 4th in her market class...behind the grand and reserve champion overall!  Not bad for her first year.  I still have people come up and tell me that they were so impressed with how she showed her lamb.  Joe taught her well and she worked hard.

Gabi also won the "Top Hand" award for the Sheep Show.  She showed determination, grit, and had good sportsmanship.

Gabi also entered the Fabric & Fashion competition.  She made this wool poncho and modeled it at the Johnson County Fair.  Her poncho also went to the Wyoming State Fair where it won a purple ribbon for construction!

She also made these really cute flannel pajama pants with a sheep print.

Gabi also made a set of holiday pillowcases that were sent to the Wyoming State Fair.  They received a purple ribbon at the State Fair!  It was a fun project.

Family Reunion

We had a lot of family come to Buffalo for a weekend in July.  We took some family pics, visited, played, swam, and had lots of fun!
