I Made It!

Last Saturday, I ran 50 miles through the beautiful Big Horn Mountains. I enjoyed it tremendously. Immediately after finishing most of my previous long races, I have vowed never to run another. Well....I already want to run another one of these. Yes, my body hurts. Yes, it takes a lot of time and physical toll. Yes, I know I'm crazy.

It's just that I spent so much time (11.5 hours to be exact) by myself (which I don't get very often these days!) doing what I have always loved to do....run. Even though I met and ran with some fun people, I ran most of the race by myself. Just me, the bright blue sky, the smell of pine trees, (the mud), and the wildflowers. It was time for me to count my many blessings and to thank God for all He has given to me....my beautiful family, an incredible place to call home, the courage to undertake this challenge, and the ability to complete it.

It was incredibly muddy and I lost track of how many streams I crossed (it got to the point where I looked forward to them because the cold water felt so good on my feet!) I descended two amazing canyons (and ascended one of them) to see the rivers flowing so wildly. The aid stations were amazing and luckily, since I have a strong stomach, I was able to enjoy most of the goodies they had to offer. Surprisingly, the thing that tasted the best was an icy cold Coors Light! Ha! There were many beautiful and amazing parts of this race, but the absolute best part was seeing my little girls running beside me at the finish line cheering me on. :)
